There are several signs and symptoms which may indicate your horse has a Vertebral Subluxation Complex and needs a chiropractic adjustment. However; even if your horse does not exhibit any of these signs and symptoms, regular chiropractic adjustments may help prevent any problems from arising in the future.
Horses with subluxations may present with many different symptoms, most common of which is pain. The following symptoms may indicate pain caused by a subluxation: abnormal posture, behavioral changes, sensitivity to touch, decreased performance, snapping when being saddled, insubordination while being ridden or jumped, difficulty with collected or lateral gaits, frightened or painful facial expressions.
Spinal subluxations can affect the muscles and ability of the horse to move, which results in decreased performance. The following symptoms may occur: lameness, abnormal gait rhythm, shortened stride, stiffness when leaving stable, stiffness with bending, decreased swing in one hip, difficulty flexing the poll, pulling against one rein, or rider seated off center due to horse.
A subluxation may also cause interference to the nerves, which can be seen in the following signs and symptoms: increased sensitivity to hot and/or cold, unusual itching, or asymmetrical / reduced sweating.
